Chairperson Becca Ashby called the Tremonton Library Board Meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. The meeting was held at the Tremonton City Library at 210 N. Tremont Street, Tremonton, Utah. Those in attendance were Tremonton Library Director Kim Griffiths, Tremonton Board Chairperson Becca Ashby, Board Vice Chairperson Mike Garrett, Tremonton Board Members Oria Burningham, Rick Jeppesen, Hayley Kearl, Librarian-Secretary Rebecca Jeppesen, and Lead Librarian Stephanie Parker.
1. Welcome
Library Board Chairperson Ashby opened the meeting.
2. Approval of Agenda
Nobody had any corrections, so the agenda was unanimously approved.
3. Approval of Minutes from August 13, 2025
Nobody had any corrections, so the minutes were unanimously approved.
4. New Business
a. Discuss and Approve Overdue Policy
Tremonton Library will no longer charge late fines. However, patrons will still be charged for lost items.
Motion by Board Member Jeppesen to approve the Overdue Policy. Board Vice Chairperson Garrett seconded the motion. Vote: Tremonton Board Chairperson Ashby – aye, Vice Chairperson Garrett – aye, Board Member Burningham – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Kearl – aye. The motion carried.
b. Discuss Open Meeting Training
Board Members Burningham, Kearl, Jeppesen, and Library Director Griffiths have completed their 2025 Open Meeting Training. Remaining board members were encouraged to email their training completion certificates to Librarian-Secretary Jeppesen.
c. Discuss Board Vacancies
Board Member Garrett is talking with a potential board member and will have them contact Director Griffiths.
d. Discuss New Strategic Goals Planning
It will take a full year to discuss and identify strategic goals for 2027-2029, so planning will begin in January 2026. Librarians, library board members, and the public will submit ideas for the library board to vote on.
e. Introduce 2026 Summer Reading Theme
The 2026 Summer Reading theme is “Unearth a Good Story.” The library staff is brainstorming creative ideas for the summer reading party.
f. Introduce New Staff
Courtney Johnston is finishing her training. Two more new employees are completing their paperwork.
5. Unfinished Business
a. Approve 2026 Library Board Meeting Schedule
Motion by Board Member Burningham to approve the 2026 Library Board Meeting Schedule. Board Member Kearl seconded the motion. Vote: Tremonton Board Chairperson Ashby – aye, Vice Chairperson Garrett – aye, Board Member Burningham – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Kearl – aye. The motion carried.
The 2026 schedule for library board meetings is January 21, April 8, August 12, and October 21.
6. Board Reports
a. Library Director’s Report
In August, 243 children participated in the County Fair Seek and Find, 70 children completed STEAM Takes and Makes, 29 children read with service dog Chewey, 107 children did Smoky the Bear Birthday activities, 117 children and adults attended storytimes, and 14 adults participated in Creative Bug Craft classes.
In September, 101 children found planets hidden around the library, 31 individuals participated in family STEM activities, 19 children read with Chewey, 98 children and adults attended storytimes, 9 adults participated in the monthly book club, 8 adults participated in Creative Bug Craft classes, and 26 seniors attended a Creative Aging Watercolor Class.
In October, 45 individuals attended a family Observe the Moon Night activity and 292 children completed Moon Take and Makes.

e. Children’s STEM Take’n Make Kits available on 2nd and 4th Saturdays
f. Adult Book Club with monthly book provided by library (Facebook)
g. Adult Book Club Discussion on first Tuesday of month @ 7:30 p.m. (ZOOM)
h. Pumpkin Walk in the Park – October 10-11
i. Cookie Decorating Family Night @ 6:30-8:00 (Senior Center)

There were no public comments.
9. Adjournment
Nobody had any other things to discuss, so the meeting was unanimously adjourned.
