BOARD MEETING

The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairperson Linda James at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held in the Tremonton City Library at 210 North Tremont Street, Tremonton, Utah. Those in attendance were Tremonton Library Director Kim Griffiths, Council Representative Diana Doutre, Vice Chairperson Linda James, Board Members Laura Bloomfield, Rick Jeppesen, Carol Jones, and Librarian-Secretary Rebecca Jeppesen.
1. Welcome
Vice Chairperson James opened the meeting.
2. Approval of Agenda
Motion by Board Member Jeppesen to approve the Agenda. City Council Representative Doutre seconded the motion. Vote: City Council Representative Doutre – aye, Vice Chairperson James – aye, Board Member Bloomfield – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Jones – aye. The motion carried.
3. Approval of Minutes from January 20, 2016
Motion by City Council Representative Doutre to approve the Minutes of January 20, 2016. Board Member Jones seconded the motion. Vote: City Council Representative Doutre – aye, Vice Chairperson James – aye, Board Member Bloomfield – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Jones – aye. The motion carried.
4. Public comments: This is an opportunity to address the Library Board regarding your concerns or ideas. Please limit your comments to three minutes.

5. New Business
a. Welcome New Board Member
Board Member Nancy Bills was excused.
b. Binders for New Library Board Members
Board Members Bloomfield and Jeppesen have already received their binders. Board Member Richard was excused.
c. Board Position Nominations for July
The Library Board nominated Linda James for Chairperson, Carol Jones for Vice Chairperson, and Laura Bloomfield for Secretary. Board positions will be voted on at the July 20, 2016 meeting.
d. Review Use of Facilities Policy
The Library Board reviewed and approved the current Tremonton City Library Use of Facilities Policy.
6. Unfinished Business
a. Discuss Summer Reading Kickoff Party
The Library Board discussed plans for the Summer Reading Kickoff Party scheduled for June 3. The Garland Library is planning a paper airplane craft, a penny-robot balance activity, a picture booth with Superman, face painting, and hula hoop, hopscotch, and jump rope games. The Tremonton Library is hosting family Olympic games with medals, bag races, and three legged races. Tremonton Library is also planning a sucker pull, story time in a teepee tent, and author visits. The Bear River Valley Library Consortium is looking at music activities, dance performances, and possible Bounce houses. Cub Scouts may help run activities, and Library Board volunteers are needed to help serve hotdogs, popcorn, and snow cones. Ridley’s Family Market is donating 400 hot dogs and Kent’s Market is donating 400 buns, which Chairperson Weaver will pick up. We still need condiment donations. Board Member Bills has offered to donate the use of her snow cone and popcorn machines. The Bear River Library Consortium still needs more teen books and easy chapter books to give away and is accepting gentle donations. The movie in the park has been moved to Saturday night, and the Garland Library will advertise it earlier in the day at the Garland Salmon Fry.
7. Board Reports
a. Library Director’s Report
Director Griffith received a letter from the Utah State Library Division certifying Tremonton Library’s compliance with requirements and eligibility to receive state funds.
In January, 25 adults attended a cake decorating class. In February, 68 girls participated in the Princess Party, 30 individuals made and decorated Valentine cookies, and 51 boys attended the Star Wars Party. In March, 150-200 children searched for paper Easter eggs hidden around the library, 140 individuals participated in a Candy Jar Guessing Game, 16 children made Dr. Seuss make-and-take crafts, 7 adults made Hippity Hop Easter Boards, 40 individuals participated in the Family Pizza and Game Night, 17 children made St. Patrick’s Day crafts, 9 individuals met with visiting authors Kelly Parkinson and Cami Checketts, and 14 adults participated in a pie exchange. In April, 9 teenagers tie dyed t-shirts, and 14 adults attended the fondant cooking class. Signups for the Summer Reading Program will start in May.

9. Adjournment
Motion by Board Member Jeppesen to adjourn the meeting. Board Member Bloomfield seconded the motion. Vote: City Council Representative Doutre – aye, Vice Chairperson James – aye, Board Member Bloomfield – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Jones – aye. The motion carried.
