Chairperson Lisa Unsworth called the Tremonton Library Board Meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The meeting was held at the Tremonton City Library at 210 N. Tremont Street, Tremonton, Utah. Those in attendance were Library Director Kim Griffiths, City Council Representative Jeff Hoedt, Chairperson Lisa Unsworth, Vice Chairperson Becca Ashby, Board Members Julie Beagley, Mike Garrett, Rick Jeppesen, Annette Macfarlane, Tremonton Librarian-Secretary Rebecca Jeppesen, and Lead Librarian Kori Williams.

1. Welcome

Chairperson Unsworth opened the meeting.

2. Approval of Agenda

Nobody had any corrections, so the agenda was unanimously approved.

3. Approval of Minutes from October 25, 2023

Nobody had any corrections, so the minutes were unanimously approved.

4. Public comments: This is an opportunity to address the Library Board regarding your concerns or ideas. Please limit your comments to three minutes.

There were no public comments.

5. New Business

a. Discuss Background Checks Policy for Library Employees

Starting in July 2024, library employees who work with children will need to have background checks. All Tremonton Library employees have already undergone background checks. The library board will approve a Background Checks Policy at their next meeting.

b. Discuss Board Positions

Becca Ashby agreed to serve as the new Library Board Chairperson. Mike Garrett agreed to serve as the Vice Chairperson, and Annette Macfarlane volunteered to be the Secretary. The board will vote to approve them in August.

The library board signed thank you cards for Lisa Unsworth and Moroni Auguilar, who have each completed six years of service. The board will invite Hayley Kearl and Brad Janssen, as possible board replacements, to our next meeting in August.

6. Unfinished Business

a. Approve Collection Development Policy

Motion by Board Member Macfarlane to approve the Collection Development Policy. Board Member Jeppesen seconded the motion. Vote: City Council Representative Hoedt – aye, Chairperson Unsworth – aye, Vice Chairperson Ashby – aye, Board Member Beagley – aye, Board Member Garrett – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Macfarlane – aye. The motion carried.

b. Approve Consortium Circulation Policy

Motion by Vice Chairperson Ashby approve the Consortium Circulation Policy. Board Member Beagley seconded the motion. Vote: City Council Representative Hoedt – aye, Chairperson Unsworth – aye, Vice Chairperson Ashby – aye, Board Member Beagley – aye, Board Member Garrett – aye, Board Member Jeppesen – aye, Board Member Macfarlane – aye. The motion carried.

c. Discuss Summer Reading Party

The Tremonton Library summer reading party is scheduled on May 31, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The Garland Library has scheduled their own party at the same time. The teens will plan their party on another date, so that it will not interfere with their last day of school parties. This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Our Library.” Director Griffiths shared fun camping theme ideas. Board Member Jeppesen volunteered to talk to a friend about hay bales, and Board Member Beagley will talk to someone who may enjoy cooking the hot dogs.

7. Board Reports

a. Library Director’s Report

Director Griffiths reported that the Tremonton City Library just got approved for the ARPA Grant through UEN. It will extend WiFi internet access throughout the park until 10:00 p.m.

In October, 25 people attended the Observe the Moon Night and 4 tweens participated in a coding club. In December, 460 children and parents attended a library story time and decorated crafts during the Tremonton Christmas Festival.
In January, 43 children attended a Stem Party. In February, 15 teens participated in a Minecraft Competition, and 20 adults enjoyed a One Plus One Game Night and taco dinner. In March, 13 teens participated in a Minecraft Competition, and 11 teens from the Spanish Club provided service in the library. In April, 22 adults began a year-long Web Developer Coding Bootcamp on-line course.

9. Adjournment

Nobody had any other things to discuss, so the meeting was unanimously adjourned.
