Thirty years ago, Tremonton turned lemons into lemonade 🍋 when the historic Midland Hotel burned in 1994. The Hotel was a gathering spot for many, making them feel welcomed as they were in town.
Tremonton City purchased the land with the intent to keep the space a gathering area, welcoming all to its downtown. Some amenities, like the gazebo/stage, were cut from the original plans while others, like the Veterans Memorial, were added through donations from the community. It is a focal point of the city.
The Square has served us well for many years, but the time has come to bring a facelift to the site through grant money and RDA funds. You will see light poles that have become outdated and non functional be updated. The center of the square will be flattened for ease of accessibility. The worn concrete around the Veterans Memorial will be replaced. A new Flag pole will be added to the memorial for the Space Force service branch. The Midland Square Mural will be painted over to seal the wall for the new owners and a new mural will be painted over it in the future. The top of the bell tower will be removed and stored until its new home is built. A new plaque will be constructed to recognize those that originally donated to make the square into a public gathering area. Public Restrooms will be added, Trees will be planted and sitting areas will be accessible to all.
Tremonton has a vibrant downtown—and it’s time to invite our community there with a space that cultivates connection, small-town community closeness, and economic growth. In the next few weeks you will see the fence go up to surround the square followed by heavy equipment. It will be a hard few months to watch but the transformation will be amazing.
The project is scheduled to be completed by October.
