On July 8, 1944, Milton sailed from San Francisco for the South Pacific, He wrote home saying how he was much more fortunate than many of his comrades since they were weeing heavy action on a daily basis and that he had only received superficial wounds on two previous occasions. He was on the Island of Paleliu of the Palan Froup. The next day his scouting group would be entering a mountainous coral terrain to determine the enemy’s location. That next morning October 28, 1944, a sniper killed Milton.
