I-84 Bridge Work Resumes March 31

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will finish critical bridge maintenance and replacement work on I-84 in Box Elder County this year. Three bridges were identified for needed improvements. Work will take place in two phases, with the majority of Phase I efforts focused on the 1000 North (Exit 39) bridge last fall. Phase II work begins Monday, March 31, and will continue through 2025.

Bridge Locations & Details

1000 North over I-84 – Garland/Bothwell Interchange (Exit 39)

Minor finish work following last fall’s bridge deck replacement to remove temporary overhangs, patch, and seal the parapet walls.
Impacts: Outside lane closures in both directions are expected for approximately one week. Crews will then shift the lane closures to the inside lanes for approximately one week.

18400 North over I-84 – Pocatello Valley Interchange (Exit 24)

The bridge at this interchange is slated for full replacement, with work starting as early as Monday, March 31.
Impacts: Full bridge closure for 6–7 months; signed detours via nearby interchanges. Shoulder closures will be in place through mid-April.
Future Impacts: Crews will close both directions of I-84 nightly from April 16 through April 18. Motorists will “ramp surf” on the adjacent on- and offramps – slowing traffic is expected.

SR-102 Over I-84 – Tremonton/Bothwell Interchange (Exit 40)

Work on this bridge consists of deck replacement. Crews will begin work along the outside shoulders of I-84 as early as April 2.
Impacts: I-84 Shoulder Work.
NOTE: This bridge will CLOSE beginning Saturday, May 31, for approximately 3 months. On- and offramps will remain open. Watch for more information as this date approaches.
