Unless you have a less than average ability to smell, you have noticed the Odor that has surrounded us.

That odor was caused by a malfunction at the Wastewater Treatment Plant on the South end of town. The Tremonton City Wastewater Treatment Plant uses mechanical and biological processes to treat sewage.  Recently, the Wastewater Treatment Plant had a mechanical failure on a piece of equipment that provides oxygen to the micro-organisms used in the biological treatment of sewage.  The lack of oxygen creates an anaerobic condition that reduces the micro-organisms within the treatment process and otherwise produces an odor.  The piece of equipment has been repaired, and the micro-organisms are receiving the oxygen needed to be effective in the treatment process.  Tremonton City has introduced micro-organisms from the Brigham City Treatment Facility to aid in the recovery process and otherwise repopulate micro-organisms within the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plan.  Unfortunately, the colder temperatures have trapped the odor within the valley.  As the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s micro-organism population becomes healthy again, the odor should be reduced back to normal levels over time.  Warmer valley temperatures and winter storms will also help the trapped odor disperse.
